month: March 2010

Both Josh and Ashlee are people I’ve met through photography, and they both used me to buy their first homes.  Very cool when that happens.

I met Josh several years ago while photographing his Lexington band Circle Four.  We’ve stayed in touch, hang with mutual friends, and this year he asked me to help him and his soon-to-be bride Regan buy their first home.  I love these two.

Aren’t they cute?  So ROCK-STAR, too!

I’ve had a lot of fun getting to know Ashlee while shooting for the ad agency she works for.  She’s also a first time homebuyer, and we were able to find her a STEAL of a deal.  It needs some cosmetic work (paint/carpet), but she got it for around 10K less than usual.  Not too shabby!

If you’re looking to buy your first home, you might wanna go ahead and hook up with a buyer’s agent (whoever it may be—even if it isn’t me).  The deadline to be under contract and still get the $8,000 tax credit is the end of April.  FYI, both Josh and Ashlee also took part in the Welcome Home program offered through People’s Exchange Bank.  In addition to the tax credit, they each also received a $5,000 gift from the federal government to help out with their downpayment and closing costs.  You can check with my homeboy Brad Farris if you’re interested.  He’s the loan officer that hooked up my buyers.  He rocks.

  • Brad does rock!

  • Looks like I missed the deadline for first time buyers…or did I? I was looking a month ago at a Res/Comm property in Shelby County 5 minutes South of I-64 on 55. An old gunslinger saloon for $62,000 with 4,000 sq/ft. i thought I’d name it ‘Daniel Boone’s Tavern’ and put a coffee house in it, selling musical instruments and books with a huge section on Kentucky history. Too bad, it would have been perfect since most of my work is in Louisville/Ft Campbell/Ft Knox areas.

  • Congratulations to the couple and to you also Shaun. Great photos, as usual.

Can you notice the ear-to-ear grins out in public lately?  We’re all so hungry for sunshine.

Here are a couple sweet shots of Carson enjoying the weather.  He’s a big fan of swinging on his belly.  Check out the second shot.  He’s a such a ham.  He paused at the bottom, then told me to “Take a picture like this, Daddy.”  How funny is he, setting up his own shots?  Awesome.

Happy Spring, y’all!  :)

For the last couple years, I’ve been adding the commercial side of photography to my repertoire.  Wedding photography is my baby.  Always will be.  But commercial photography has been an absolute blast so far.  I get to break out fun lighting, play around with different looks, and meet lots of cool folks.

I recently did a shoot for a local restaurant company featuring the University of Kentucky’s new head coach Joker Phillips.  What I love about shoots like this one is that they’re totally opposite of how I normally shoot for weddings.  With weddings, all of my time is spent shooting and working with changing variables.  With shoots like this one, though, most of the time is spent preparing.  I arrived an hour, scoped out the space, picked out two scenes, set up lighting in both of them,  and photographed a stand-in (thanks,  Steve!) so that I could be 100% dialed in and ready to shoot when Joker arrived.

We started shooting at 10:05AM and were wrapped up with everything by 10:18AM.  Not too shabby!  That left a few extra minutes for some fun shots of him with the people there, including me.

For the record?  He was a super-nice guy.  I’m sure he’s had his fair share of photo and video spots recently, but he was so laid back and nice to everyone.  I’ll be excited to see Joker in action this fall.  Go Cats!

I love this shot!  In the final version used for advertising, he’ll have a gift card in his hand.  Can’t wait to see it!

Awhhhhh-yeah!  Who’s that guy?  Note:  That’s a design on the t-shirt I’m wearing.  Looking at it on screen, though, it kind of looks like I have a mask hanging around my neck.  That would be awesome, though.  Can you imagine if I rolled up to a photoshoot wearing a super-hero mask?  Bwahahaha!

  • I’m loving UK basketball season (I’ve gone a little crazy), but I’m so excited for a new football season too!

  • Shaun, hahahahahahahahaha, I literally can’t stop laughing at the thought of you wearing a superhero mask, hahahaha, to a shoot. ROFL!
