I’ve really enjoyed getting to know the Vanzant family over the last few years.  They’re just really nice people.  Kris and Molly’s kiddos are the ones I photographed a couple weeks ago, but I’ve also had the pleasure of photographing Kris’ brother’s family (hey Jeff and Andrea!), and I did some shooting for the church that they’re all involved with—The Gathering.  Kris’ and Jeff’s dad Don is the pastor there.  The whole family is just super-cool.

Let me tell you…Jackson, Avery and Kate were an absolute blast to photograph.  They each have such fun personalities.  You can tell that Kris and Molly do a great job fostering their individuality.

Here are some of my favorite shots from our session:

Jackson loves his Legos.

I couldn’t resist posting this one.  It’s just really fun.

And my favorite series from our session together.  I can totally see these next three images as big canvas prints on the wall.

If you’re friends or family of the Vanzants, I’d love to stay in touch with you.   Facebook and Twitter are good ways to do that.

And lastly—and hope Kris won’t mind—I’d love to give tell all the Kentucky readers just how excellent Kris is when it comes to handling the financing of people’s homes.  His company is Stockton Mortgage.  I’ve had several clients use him as their loan officer, and they’ve all raved at how perfectly smooth and financially beneficial the experience was for them.  You can reach him by email HERE.

Talk to you all later!  Thanks for stopping by! :) -shaun

My wife and Kristin met each other through a homeschool group here in Lexington.  Through getting to know each other, the subject of me being a photographer came up—just in time for Kristin’s family to have a summer portrait session done.  Good timing, I’d say! :)

I met Kristin and Brian out at Keeneland where I got to meet their two kiddos Austin and Sidney.  Once we got a few group family shots, I encouraged the two kids to run around a bit.  I love capturing their playful spirits, but it’s also a good way to wear them down a bit before we try to tackle more portraits.  Well, that playful spirit never let up…and I loved it.

To Kristin and Brian—Thank you for inviting me into your lives!  You’re so sweet, and I’ll look forward to our families staying in touch.  Take care! :)

To everybody—Thanks for stopping my my blog.  Please stay in touch with me through Facebook and Twitter, and feel free to leave a comment below if you love what you see.  Bye, y’all!  -shaun

One of my coolest family sessions ever was the one I shot with the Carey Family.  Last year, they had me come out to their house in both the morning and the evening for a session.  It was a fun way to capture their at-home dynamic and it resulted in some really fun, relaxed portraits in the evening, since the kiddos were already used to me by the second session.  I was such a fan of it that I came up with a contest for readers to help me name the session.  Some brilliant soul came up with The Daily Groove—which I love.  It embodies the day-to-day laid-back feel that I think is so important to capture.

The best part about cool families is that they usually have really cool extended family and friends.  Sarah shared her family portrait experience with her cool sister-in-law Elizabeth, who then hired me to come out and shoot a similar style session.  We started off at the Nahra home in the morning for playtime, and we wrapped up with a trip to Ecton Park in Chevy Chase.  These three boys were a trip to be around!  So much fun!

To Elizabeth and Tyler—Thank you for inviting me into your lives!  Your boys are each so perfectly unique, and you do a great job of fostering their individuality.  Kudos!

To the families/friends of the Nahras—Please stay connect with me!  Whether it’s through email, Facebook or Twitter, I’d love to stay in touch!    Thanks for stopping by!  -shaun

Oops.

Everyone should have a super-hero cape, right?  If you see me out next week with one, don’t judge me!

And the slideshow!

  • Yeah so good makes me want to do it again today! My favorite is hands down the one of Jake sitting in the car leaning over the dash with his arms folded over looking straight at you!! Maybe we can get our acts together for a second go round soon. While the girls (and mommy) are still a little sun kissed. I think of some where else fun to shoot this time-I have a few more tricks up my sleeve.

  • I must agree….I wish my children were young and capturable again…. what fun.

Elizabeth, what a beauty you are!…. SOOO photogenic (sp???)

You will need a big wall!
