Family and Maternity Photography: Lexington, KY

I love photographing this family. Chelsea and Sean call me whenever anything cool is happening with them. Like in 2009 when they were expecting their first baby. Then in spring of 2010 for Langley’s first birthday. Last month, I met back up with them at their home to photograph their trio before baby number two arrives next month.

To Chelsea and Sean—THANK YOU for staying in touch and trusting me with your special moments. You’re awesome parents. Can’t wait to meet Carter!

Lexington Maternity Photography

I’ve known Ariel since 2008 when we connected on Facebook. She was getting her photography business up and running, so we would meet up for coffee and chat. Super-nice person! Since then, we’ve stayed in touch, and she and my wife Katie have become friends.

Ariel and her husband Daniel are expecting their first baby in December. Ariel’s mom Donna was sweet enough to surprise them with a gift certificate for a maternity session. Great gift! This is such a neat time for the two (almost three) of them. I love that I got to document it.

Ariel’s mom was there at the session, too, to help out with Noel. We grabbed some shots of her with Ariel. I love this shot.

Beautiful moment. I asked Daniel if he’d spend a little time with the baby. How cool is it that, when their baby is waaaay older years from now, this image will exist, showing Daniel’s affection toward his child so early on?

You’re beautiful, Ariel! You’re going to be great parents!

Lexington Family and Child Photography: Ashland

I met Brooke almost three years ago while she was a bridesmaid in a wedding I was shooting. We talked way back then about eventually doing a family session, but it wasn’t until this year that we reconnected. Very cool!

Brooke, her husband Matt, and their sweet daughter Layla met me out at Ashland, the Henry Clay Estate a couple weeks ago for a fall portrait session. This trio is about to be a quartet (congrats!), which made documenting them hanging out even cooler. I love the shot of Layla with her hand on her mommy’s baby bump.

Chelsea, Sean and Langley

I always like to talk a bit with folks before I start their sessions. I love to soak in their vibe. Who they are, where they’ve been, what they’re into. It helps me to, for a lack of better words, get in the zone before photographing them.

It’s weird, but I think my ideas about maternity shoots have changed somewhat now that Katie and I have been through the pregnancy/parenting process with Carson. As I sat there in front of Chelsea and Sean, who are expecting sweet Langley’s arrival soon, all kinds of things were blurring through my head. Immediately, I’m struck by their attraction to each other. They’re like peanut butter and jelly, Bella and Edward, like Tori and Dean. But here with them now is precious Langley, too. The two of them are stepping out into this amazing thing called parenthood, and though they’ve probably been told all about it, they have no idea just how incredible and life-changing it’s going to be. Every second will be filled with new experiences as the three of them venture through life together as a family. It’s that kind of sentiment that I carried with me while photographing them, and I can’t wait for you all to see the images we captured.

To Chelsea and Sean- Thank you for inviting me into this crazy-cool time of your life. It’s insane for me to think that these images will be part of your new family’s history. Congrats!

To Langley- You’re a lucky little dude. Your parents already love you so much. Just wait til you’re on the scene!
